How the CS2 Trade-Up Calculator Works
The Skinbase CS2 trade-up calculator models a contract before you use real items. Add the required input skins and their floats, choose a price provider, and the calculator identifies the possible outputs, their probabilities, projected wear, expected value, profitability, and profit chance.
What is a CS2 trade-up contract?
A standard Counter-Strike 2 trade-up contract exchanges 10 eligible skins of one rarity for one item of the next rarity tier. The output comes from a collection represented by the inputs. StatTrak inputs lead to StatTrak outputs when that output type exists, while normal and StatTrak items are handled separately.
Eligible Covert contracts use five inputs instead. Valve explains in its official October 2025 update that five regular Covert items can produce a regular knife or gloves, while five StatTrak Covert items can produce a StatTrak knife from an eligible input collection. Skinbase switches the calculator from 10 slots to five when a Covert contract is selected.
Valve confirms in its official May 2026 update that Souvenir quality items can also be selected alongside normal quality items. Souvenir attributes are removed from selected Souvenir items, and the contract produces a normal item one rarity higher from a collection represented by the inputs. Skinbase supports Souvenir inputs while keeping them separate from StatTrak contracts.
How Skinbase calculates trade-up odds
Each input contributes an equal share of the contract's collection probability. After a collection is selected, its share is divided across the eligible outputs in that collection. Skinbase also applies explicit phase weights where an item has priced rare phases, so those variants do not receive an artificial equal chance.

Skinbase normalizes every input float within that skin's allowed range, averages the normalized values, and maps the result into each output's own minimum and maximum float range. That projected float selects the relevant wear and price before the financial metrics are calculated.

Profit chance is different from profitability: it is the combined probability of outputs priced above the total input cost. A contract can have expected value above its input cost but a low profit chance when one rare, expensive result contributes a large part of the average return.
