CS2 Chicken Egg Guide: How to Hatch and Raise a Pet Chicken
Chicken Eggs and pet chickens are live in CS2. An egg can appear in a Weekly Care Package, hatch into a chick, and grow through two more stages into a hen. You need to keep it fed while it grows. The system is a cosmetic companion feature: it does not change your weapons or give a competitive advantage.
The pet system arrived quietly alongside the September 22 update. Valve’s patch notes mention map chickens taking Zeus x27 damage, while players first spotted the new egg in their weekly reward choices.
How to get the Chicken Egg
For Prime accounts, the egg can appear as one of the choices in the Weekly Care Package after the first rank-up of the week. It is a random option, so you will not necessarily see one every week. Claiming the egg uses both reward picks; you receive the egg instead of the usual two reward items.
There is currently one pet slot per account. Chicken Eggs, Chicken Feed, and the pet chicken are not tradable or marketable, so this is a personal companion to raise rather than an item to sell or transfer.
Keep the egg fed while it hatches
The egg takes about a week to hatch. It needs food during the countdown: if its food runs out, it will not hatch. Chicken Feed also comes from Weekly Care Packages and takes both reward picks when claimed, so check the pet’s hunger notices and plan for the next package before the bowl is empty.
Once the timer ends, the egg cracks open and reveals a chick. The pet’s growth continues over time as long as it has food. There are four stages in total:
- Egg: The countdown stage. Keep it fed until it hatches.
- Chick: The newly hatched chicken stays with your agent in the menus and loadout. You can name it and use the photo features.
- Pullet: The young chicken starts to show its adult coloring. It can follow you onto maps when you host the lobby or queue solo.
- Hen: The adult stage. The hen eventually reaches the end of its lifespan and leaves, but its photos remain in your profile book.
The pet book tracks its progress, and the Photo Booth lets you save pictures as it grows. You can give it a name once at each stage from chick onward, so you can rename it as it matures.
Chicken breeds, colors, and care
Every egg hatches into a yellow chick. As it grows into a pullet, it reveals one of three adult breeds—Catalana, Silkie, or Polish—with its own color and markings. You do not choose the breed or appearance when claiming an egg.
Keep an eye on the food status throughout the pet’s life. If the feed runs out, the chicken leaves permanently. A hen also leaves when its lifespan ends, even if it is still fed. The photo book stays on your profile, but the pet slot becomes available for another egg.
What the chicken changes in a match
The chicken is there for company and photos, not as a gameplay tool. A pullet can accompany you onto a map in a lobby you host or when you queue alone; it does not provide a weapon, scouting, or combat benefit.
